How much does a bathroom refit cost in Cheshire? A 2026 guide
Typical bathroom refit prices in Cheshire and Staffordshire for 2026, what pushes the cost up or down, and how to get a fixed price you can rely on.

The honest answer is that it depends on the size of the room, what's moving and the fittings you choose. But "it depends" isn't much help when you're trying to set a budget, so here are the figures we use as a starting point for bathrooms across Cheshire, Lancashire, Staffordshire and the West Midlands.
Typical bathroom refit costs in 2026
These guide prices include labour and standard materials: strip-out and disposal, plumbing, boarding, tiling, the suite and finishing. They are for a typical house in Cheshire and Staffordshire.
| Type of room | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Cloakroom or small en-suite (up to about 3m²) | £2,550 to £4,700 |
| Standard family bathroom (about 4 to 6m²) | £5,100 to £7,650 |
| Family bathroom with a walk-in shower instead of a bath | £5,950 to £8,500 |
| Large bathroom with bath, separate shower and premium fittings | £10,200 to £15,300+ |
You can get a figure for your own room in a couple of minutes with our estimate tool. It asks about size, layout, tiling and the standard of fittings, then gives you a guide range.
What makes a bathroom cost more
Moving things around
Keeping the toilet, basin and bath where they are is the single biggest way to control cost. Moving the toilet in particular can mean new waste runs under the floor, and sometimes lifting floorboards in the room below.
Walk-in showers and wet rooms
A walk-in shower needs a properly waterproofed (tanked) area, a low-profile tray or a level floor with a linear drain, and a glass panel. It's money well spent, but it usually adds £770 to £1,530 over a bath with a shower above.
How much you tile
Floor-only tiling with painted walls is the cheapest option. Half-height tiling is the most common. Full-height tiling looks fantastic, particularly with large-format porcelain, but adds both tiles and time.
The fittings themselves
The same room can vary by thousands depending on the taps, shower valve, toilet and vanity. Brushed brass, wall-mounted taps and concealed cisterns all look superb, and they cost more to buy and to fit.
What makes a bathroom cost less
- Keeping the existing layout
- Choosing a good-value range for the suite and spending a little more on the parts you touch every day, such as the taps and shower
- Tiling the wet areas fully and painting the rest with a good bathroom paint
- Booking outside the busiest months, if your dates are flexible
How long a bathroom refit takes
Most bathroom refits take one to two weeks. A cloakroom can be done in a few days. Walk-in showers and wet rooms take a little longer, because the waterproofing and any floor screed need time to cure before tiling.
Getting a price you can rely on
A guide price is a starting point. The fixed price comes after someone has looked at the room: the condition of the floor and walls, where the pipes run and what's behind the old tiles.
